The eleventh Arab Cultural Weeks took place from 9 May to 30 June 2015 under the theme “Migration, Integration and Diversity”. The project grew out of cooperation between the University of Hamburg, Gusour “Bridges for Culure Exchange” and institutions including the Northern Church, the State Agency for Civic Education, and various German and Arab associations, churches and mosques. It offered panel discussions, lectures, intercultural cookery workshops, photography exhibitions and much more.
According to Dr Mohammed Khalifa of the Department of Middle Eastern History and Culture at the University of Hamburg's Asia–Africa Institute, the varied events were intended to encourage reflection, build bridges between German and Arab cultures and help prevent radical ideas. The Arab Cultural Week provides a space where different cultures and traditions can meet. We hope this will help dispel some of the widespread stereotypes on both sides.
